Battle of the Bands with Football Greats
…
Two Thursdays ago, I had the pleasure of traveling with L2G photographer, Stanley Stevens, to Ann Arbor for a good-old-fashioned “Battle of the Bands”. The event was hosted by and at the 4 Eleven Lofts, which is an incredible off-campus student housing facility, right smack in the double A downtown. Thirteen bands were given thirty minutes apiece, in front of a consistently supportive crowd, and a panel of rather professional and tight-lipped judges. “I liked Heroes on Parade and my boys Jack & Joe,” was the best mid-show leak I could get (thank you L2G faithful, Mike Martin), but the general consensus of the panel throughout the night was, “Everyone is awesome!” But don’t take my word for it…
Hostel Detroit, City of Detroit & State of Michigan are Making Moves!
…
Every year, with the passing of Memorial Day it becomes official – it is The Summer here in Michigan, and we like The Summer. Nature shows off its beautiful lakes and trees, and we show off our beautiful legs and boats and (on some days) Tigers. After reading and hearing stories throughout the week about some of the great progress our city and state are making, it seemed appropriate to update everyone as to how one of L2G’s partner is doing – to show off their progress, as it were.

A whole lot of people have put a whole lot into Hostel Detroit, and it has been time and effort well-spent. The hostel has already begun to pour that energy back into the city, offering a friendly (and yet still very lively) jumping-off-point to anyone wishing to dive into Detroit.
New Blogger. New Perspective. Welcome Patrick.

There are a couple of things that you should know about me.
One is that I am of a divided mind. There is the I that is confident and extroverted, and there is the I that is flighty and reserved. There is the I that writes in and the I that edits out. These I’s are bitter and well-matched rivals, and they can make it impossible to get anything done. The other thing that you should know about me is that I believe this division to be inevitable, and even necessary, if I am to really live, which is to say if I am to change – if I am to continue to grow.
Mighty Detroit for Japan
…
We all know of the current state of Detroit. We have seen and experienced the hardship that faces our economy. We all know what it is to have to strap the gloves on and fight for our future. It is easy to get caught up in that reality…but the reality is, we are now, more than ever, reminded of our blessings. After a few minutes of surfing the net or flipping through the tube, we can see the very real devastation that has effected hundreds of thousands in Japan.
Dream Team Series: Stan
…
Welcome to the 1st installation of our Dream Team Blog Series. I think it’s important to talk a little bit about the young adults behind the scenes who work so hard to connect you to our efforts. When it comes to our Dream Team, there is more to us individually than meets the eye. Unless of course you’re Stanley Stevens. Because if you’re Stanley Stevens, then it’s ALL ABOUT how things meet the eye; it’s a truth you can experience in his photographs. He has a “real job” that he goes to with the word “Strategist” in the title, but he lives and breathes images. Moments. Still frames. Not to say that his life is boring, because if you thought that you’d be dead wrong. But he has a way of appreciating the moments that you might overlook yourself.

Happy New Year, friends!
For the average American, January has become synonymous with fresh starts, new resolve, and packed workout centers. As the days pass by, the month also welcomes in old ruts, new mistakes, and failed diets. Let us not give in to mediocrity in 2011. Let us instead set our goals and exceed them! This January, let us resolve to dig in deep. Let’s leave room for mistakes, be forgiving of ourselves and others, but never quit striving for something greater! Read more »

Did you get your video in? Your donation? Awesome. Who was it for?
Sometimes, Christmas comes around and as if by cue, it feels like an opportunity for giving. You’ve got that dollar in your wallet that you’ve been keeping there for the next vending machine stop and suddenly you’re cheerfully handing it over to the Salvation Army bell ringers. You don’t know what it is about the season, but you can’t help but to be on board! Read more »

Hey. Did you make your video shout out yet?
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
I gave Ryan permission to post that impromptu clip of me to show you that you don’t have to be “a pro” in front of the camera. Or even comfortable there (I’m clearly not). Let me remind you; it doesn’t have to be all grace and poise it just has to be real. Granted if you had even an ounce more grace or poise than I do, it certainly wouldn’t hurt! But you get the idea, right? Read more »
