Step 5: Grand Opening

After years of planning, months of building, thousands of dollars donated and thousands of hours volunteered…Hostel Detroit has opened. On April 17, 2011, the “Welcome Mat” to Detroit became accessible to travelers and visitors alike.

250+ people from the city and suburbs attended to celebrate this joyous day. They were joined by the Detroit Marching Band, Slows BBQ, Cafe Con Leche, Vitamin Water, members of the House of Representatives, the Senate, the Detroit City Council, the state government and so any more.
